Heritage Sites

Kenya is a home to various unique world heritage sites identified by The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Clustered in different categories, these sites have been identified precisely because of their cultural, historical, natural and archaeological value. These world heritage sites combine to form the ultimate quintessence of Kenya.

Lamu Old Town
‘A donkey and the dhow island, no vehicles’ Dated back in 14th century Swahili settlement, the island has seen many visitors and influences, including Portuguese explorers, Turkish traders and the Omani Arabs. For the travelers, Lamu is a hypnotically exotic experience, made even more enjoyable by the relaxed and welcoming attitudes of the locals. Its narrow streets remain unchanged, and in the markets and squares around the fort life moves at the same pace as it always has.
Fort Jesus, Mombasa
‘The Portuguese influence in the Kenyan coast’ Built by the Portuguese in 1593-1596, Fort plays host to a spectacular sound and light show 3 nights each week. Visitors are welcomed into the Fort by guards in flowing robes brandishing flaming torches. They are led to a specially designed and choreographed show that uses lights, sound effects and costumed actors to bring to life the long and turbulent history of the Fort. At the end of the show, a candlelit dinner is served in the open courtyard of the Fort, under the stars.
Lake Systems - Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru And Lake Elementaita
‘A Flamingo Paradise and other globally threatened bird species’ Valuable for the study of ecological processes, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru and Lake Elementaita are three inter-linked relatively shallow lakes in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya and cover a total area of 32,034 hectares. The Lake System is home to 13 globally threatened bird species and some of the highest bird diversities in the world. It’s a home for flamingo birds and a major nesting and breeding ground for great white pelicans and also black and white rhino, Rothschild’s giraffe, greater kudu, lion, cheetah and wild dogs.
