Visit Karen Blixen Museum and learn about the Out of Africa novel and film on a tour Named after the author of the Out of Africa novel and Oscar-winning film, the museum is built on the spot of Karen Blixen’s old farm.  Built in 1912, Karen Blixen Museum was home to Danish Author, poet and Artist- Karen Blixen.

Better known by her pen name, Isak Dinesen, Karen Blixen is the woman behind the colonial-era love story Out of Africa. Her historic farm, located at the foot of the Ngong Hills just outside Nairobi, was the setting for her timeless story of a broken marriage, cross-cultural romance and adaptation to a new foreign land.  Tourists visiting Blixen’s former home and now a museum get to learn her life within the context of Kenya’s rich history. The museum is situated on a portion of the original 4,500 acre plantation where scenes from the movie were also filmed.
